3 in the same Day.Water lay everywhere along my path to work. I was only 1minute out of my house when I had my first accident. I was cycling along having narrowly missed a couple of people. I was speeding along, on my peddlebike, on a straight part of the path when suddenly my front wheel starts slipping. To my left are some large boulder which the the owners of the building have decide are suitable decorations. I try and control my skid so as to vear away from the boulders. Suddenly I am falling, I am now skidding along on my back and am still heading from the boulders. I am still holding onto the bike and the wheels are in the air. For some reason my only concert is to ensure the wheels do not impact the boulders. All is still. I have stopped skidding. I am on the floor and the bike is still between by legs with the wheels in the air. I have not hit the boulder. I get up, I seem ok. I check my bike - only the back mudguard seems to be affected. I adjust it. My right knee is sending signals of concern. I lift up my leg covers and find I am bleeding from my right knee - the skin is peeled away but it's not bad enough nor bleeding enough to stop me getting to work.
I get back on my bike and continue my journey to work. Half way I encounter a bike heading the other way. The cyclist is looking down so I vear right to avoid him. He then looks up and veers in my direction. I apply brakes and he shouts out "NO BREAKS". We touch handlebar but stay on our respective bikes. We say our apologies and I cycle away.
Finally the worst accident happened on my way home. I'd had some adreniline close shaves soon after leaving work but this just spurred me on to greater risks. I am speeding along on the pavement approaching a busy crossroad. The road crossing my path is full of cars left and right. A bus is approaching but I judge that if i speed up I can make it across the junction before it gets there. What I totally forgot/didn't account for is that it's 2 lanes of traffic going left and 2 lanes of traffic going right. As I get ahead of the bus I encounter a car crossing my path. My front wheel gets crushed, I end up on the left side of the bonnet. I watch as I somehow dismount my bike and watch the back wheel swing away from me heading, in a circle for the right-front side of the car (with the bike front wheel acting as a pivot). In my head I am saying "don't let the back wheel hit the car". Luckily I am OK. The bike front wheel is a gonner. The car appears OK. Some clip on panel has fallen off and is retrieved by the driver. He asks if I'm OK, He checks his car, He gives me words of advice. I am obviously wearing my usual grin.
He says, "I could have killed you, don't laugh".
I say, "I am grinning because I am still alive". He gets back in his car and drives off. I head for home pushing my bike (balanced on the back wheel) home.
