Life is like a box of chocolates

Last Saturday, 2 weeks after my latest injury, I decided to venture onto the football pitch. For 20 minutes I played. Most of the injuries responded well. However one group of tendons refused to cooperate. The tendons in question exist on the left side at the juncture of the waist and left thigh (on the front and side). The result was that I could not chase a ball at full speed, turning anti clockwise was uncomfortable. After 20 minute I decide to sit it out. But for some stupid reason, after 20minutes, when Dan asked the simple question, "Are you playing?" I decided I would. I actually felt a little better. Within 5 minutes I got the ball, I made a run toward the opposite goal. My team mates were all covered. My only option was a shot at goal, I wound up my left leg and let loose. The ball flew weakly into the goalkeepers arms. I couldn't care less, I was crouching holding my left leg as the agony of torn ligaments hit home and the realisation that I would be out for possibly months - AGAIN!
I could not play on. I limped off the pitch. The group of ligaments, luckily, are such that they do not interfere with cycling.
I cycled to a nearby chemist where a kind security guard allowed me to leave my bike inside the store. I purchased a can of freeze spray, found a little lane and spray liberally over the injured area.

I cycled into town, intending to head for home. The main street was buzzing with people and I enjoyed staying on my bike and cycling through them. I only jumped off when E, an ex-Saturday_footy_player, tapped me on the shoulder and we got talking.

So there we are - E,me and my bike. Like a couple of boulders with a river of bodies flowing around us. Suddenly from out of the river I receive a tap. Over 1 year later - it is "the other" Lisa. She was looking GOOOOOOOOD. She had trendy sunglasses, her usual happy teeth exposed in an enormous grin. She's given up on teaching and returned to her earlier career - law. She's enjoying it as it's a different branch. We talked - now a boulder of 3 and the river flowing forever regardless of obstacles. I talked but with shock still in my system.

I emailed her and she's emailed back. I emailed again to see if she's still shacked up with her man of then. I've even hinted at getting out my courter's clothing :).

I've been posting pictures of the football lads on a website and giving them public access. Lisa, she of the above title, belongs to this website but protects her photos behind a layer of friendship - i.e. only her friends can see her photos. She's always done this for as long as I've been aware of her existence. Now, this month, she's gone public. Her latest activities are visible to the world. Coincidence, maybe. Her latest visitor from home also is a publicist - so perhaps she's infected Lisa. Or lastly, perhaps on a subconscious level, I am still a factor? I am not holding my breath - but nothing to lose (hah!).

The boss, who had the stroke 5 weeks ago, is still in hospital. He's more comfortable with his condition. He's unlikely to be coming back to work. Sometimes he says confusing phrases, he says he experiences uncontrolled movements from the afflicted side - I think, like a self repairing computer, this is his brain trying out different pathways, seeing the results and storing them for later usage. THE BRAIN AND BODY ARE SO AMAZING.

The nephews and their friends will be happy with my latest phase of injuries. It means weekends for them are more fun. Hell, the Satuday before the injury (10 June), I took them to a park and dispite my injuries climbed up a 10ft/300m wall and pulled them up - of course they promptly wanted to get back down :).

Hmmmm Brittney really needs make-up.

Charlize Theron: There is a God!

Lisa Kudrow: Oh My!

Melanie Griffith: Is this the same person?

Rachel Hunter: Quick someone get her a brush

Renee Zelwegger: Proves the case for good lighting and make-up.

Hope that's brightened up your day a bit - it has mine!

Another Injury

Damn, another injury, a new one. This time it's the front of the left leg (the upper leg). I got it chasing down a ball. We were only 15minutes into the game. I and 2 others raced to get to the ball. I got there first only to hear the sound of a tear in my upper left leg. I was unable to carry on playing. Probably a combination of pushing REAAAAAAALy hard and not having warmed up enough for the kind of power I called upon. This all happened on the Saturday game.

The shame is that in the past few weeks I've really been getting on top of my game. Just last Thursday I was the top scorer. We played "1st to 10". I scored 6. There were 8 players in each team. I wasn't just goal hanging either. I was up and down that pitch. I saved more than I scored. We were playing with small goals. We didn't have a keeper. The other team though, did have a bloke who just sat in their goals.

Work. The Friday before the last one I left work as did all my colleagues without a care in the world. On Tuesday, my boss failed to arrive. Later we discovered he was in hospital. On Wednesday we found out the extent of his fate. He has suffered a stroke. He has lost movement down one side and his speech is severely affected. From being the busiest man in the company he now sits in a hospital bed. His brain as razor sharp as ever but the frustration is immense in not being able to communicate, at his razor speed, to any individual. It is very hard to understand what he is saying as he has to speak from the corner of his mouth.

Saturday.
The nephews came down. An emergency. Their mother had suffered some kind of fit and was admitted to hospital too. The kids were not there to see the fit so never really showed any affects through the weekend. They had a great time. They spent most of the day with the next door kids. They spent less than 10minutes on the computer. Most of their games were the best kind - using their imaginations.

Films watched this since last entry: Spiderman 3, The Wild, To Hell and Back.

Activities attempted since last entry:

Salsa

I went to a Beginners Salsa. There were more women than men. I dance with lots of ladies - some really pretty ones too. But none of them generated the magic. I left pretty soon after the end of the training. The venue was crowded and again it was difficult to hear the tutor or see him. The basic steps I got, eventually. The turn I found more difficult. It was not helped by the "grippiness" of my shoes. An now the leg injury puts pay to a quick return to the dance floor.

Pool
Went with the work mates to a pub. We ended up playing the evening on a pool table. It was great fun. It's also nice not having to endure the bloody smokers. There was plenty of laughter and funny moments. There was also the usual depression and boredom of those who descend into "their drunk alter-egos".
